Camp near Fort Sedgwick March 17th 1867 My Dear General The intense cold weather still continues with us and the men are consequently suffering to some extent. Two teamsters sent with rations to the parties guarding forage returned badly frost bitten. The thermometer has measured -30 degrees I am informed by the Post surgeons at Fort Sedgwick. Its too cold to drill but I keep the men occupied as much as possible to prevent them from thinking of cold weather. ?
