what is the real object of his visit to Virginia? I hope the patriotism and Republican principles of that state cannot be shaken. Under my present impressions and feelings there is nothing which would give me so much pleasure and gratification as to serve, if but for one session in the U.S. Senate. There I should be politically on a footing with Mr. Calhoun, and I have the means as well as the inclination of exposing him, and there I could do it to advantage. I have never mentioned this wish before, nor would I now suffer my name to be used, in any way, or upon any occasion, where it would interfere with the pretentions of those on the same side with myself. I am truly gratified by the course pursued by our young Representative Mr. Gilmer. he only wants facts and an active and decided support to render his efforts really useful and decisive. I often wish I was near him, I could furnish him with facts and such assistance as would not only enable him to promote the interests of Georgia effectually, but to expose unclear Calhoun where he thinks himself perfectly secure.

I hope to hear from you soon and am Dear Sir with real regard your very obedient servant, D.unclear.Mitchell

The Hon. Wm. H. Crawford
