The people on seeing him approaching, with perfect silence took their seats in the house. On reaching the house the procession walked round in silence four times. The bearers then let down the plat form within three feet of the ground, and a person appointed took the candidate on his back, and carried him to his appropriate white seat in the back part of the house. His seat was covered with a white dressed deer skin, and the ground under his feet spread with mattress of cane, covered with a large buck skin dressed white. (Previous to this the candidate had fasted six days, this made the seventh.) Then a speaker was sent for four different ways & at four different times, before a suitable person was found.
