The chief priest had seven counsellors, of whom his right hand man was one. These he consulted on all matters of importance. These were also priests and their office hereditary. When one died, the chief priest took measures to have his successor consecrated in a manner very similar to his own consecration. Their dress was similar, though different in some particulars. In every considerable town there was a priest, who had his assistant priest & seven other counsellors. These he consulted on all important business that came under his cognizance. The office of each was hereditary, and when one died his successor was consecrated in due form. The principal priest in each town was at the head of the civil & religious concerns of that town; and in case some small town had no priest, they occasionally called in the aid of one from a neighbouring town.
