Feasts etc.

The Creeks seem to unite all the Jewish feasts, as far as practicable into one; and in order to this they made their year to commence with the moon which made its first appearance about the time of green corn, so that the feast of First fruit, the feast of trumpets, the feast of Tabernacles, & the fast of Expiation could all be attended at the same time which was about the first of August. The feast was commenced a little before the new moon, and continued till that made its appearance, so that all could enter on a new month, & a new year pure from the pollutions of the year past. First fruits being grown, the priest sent a messenger to enquire through the town, whether the first fruits were fully grown. The messenger, receiving the affirmative answer, returned. The priest then sent another runner to notify all the people to assemble at the Town house on the morning of the sixth day. He then dispatched a third runner to get seven ears of corn from seven different fields, belonging to the seven clans. On the morning of the sixth day, all assembled, and improved the day in feasting. Towards night, each woman was directed to repair to her house, & extinguish all her old fire, and to throw out all the brands, ashes, etc and cleanse her house, and all her household furniture, etc. Men were
