232 Wednesday April 5h,- Pleasant morning, as I was expecting a package on from Boston by express. I went down to Adams & Co before breakfast- they were not open. so went back again to Hotel and then went down again in the course of an hour or so,- after waiting an hour, or more, I recd the package, then returned, and had my breakfast. after breakfast I packed things in trunk and went down to the steamer, /The Illinois", with our baggage all ready for the voyage,- and packed our things, what we could" in our State Room, then- as the Steamer was not ready to sail, Winslow & I went up in town a short distance, and bought a few private stores. I returned to Boat, but Winslow went up in town, to meet Geo Wheeler,- they soon returned to Boat- and we then, examined said stores- it now being about time to start all was confusion on board, The Wharf- as well as the Boat, was crowded with people- Passengers & their friends,- as the bell rung for the last time, notifying all that were not going to go on shore unclear.
