1839 Superintendant's kind efforts to bring the western Chiefs to co-operate with them in this work of peace, & exceedingly re-gret that they have been unsuccessful. They have little doubt, however, "but?" all matters in controversy will soon be brought to an amicable close, because the people of the Western Chiefs have now taken the matter in hand and to their good sense & more to command itself. - They accept with grattitude the kind offer of the Super-intendant's aid in the adjustment of their difficulties and in their efforts to promote tranquillity. They respectfully request the favor of him to remove any misapprehend-sion regarding the peaceable disposition of the Cherokees. They thank him for having addressed the Greeks on the sub-ject and will be still further obliged by the same favor in regard to the other neighboring tribes.
