Sunday June 26th
I read in the Testament I have come to the conclusion that the bread we receive here will weigh nearly a pound though from its bulk it should weigh only half that amount. We were removed to Bell Island. Here we received old and miserably unclear Wedge and Ball tents. I will not tell one thing worse than it is. We were permitted to take a good bath in the James River. I read in the Testament and studied grammar. We are divided into messes of fifty each mess has five tents.
Monday June 27th
Our rations of bread not quite so large as at Sibby but of a little better quality. I ate mine more soup but not so many beans in it. unclear meat and that too of a very poor quality. I ate all my rations at one meal and could have eaten twice as much. Our coffee has not entirely given out yet, and we have a little of Uncle Sam's pork left. I read in the Testament, study grammar and slept.
