As t. rain is continually (i.e. often falling upon t earth, so the truths of t gospel are often falling into t hearts of men, and Ct. attends these truths with t influence of his spirit. Now t. apostle noticed t effects - such earth or hearts as bear t fruits of holiness - suitable for Ct who bestows this grace/rain: These hearts receive blessing from God. But that ground or those hearts which under t rain of Cts grace bears nothing but briers & thorns i.e. sins of opposition against? t. truth unclear of unbelief, pride, & stoutness?
