"Virtue is the only Amaranthine flower on earth" and Society is the proper soil in which to nourish it. What is more gentle or purer in the sight of God and man than virtue? I pray for this season truly be called an Amaranthine flower and that it is the only one is evident from the fact that it embraces every quality that is truly good and gentle. Notwithstanding it is so very beautiful and attractive and is so universally admired in every land by the great and good yet it is often times banished from the presence of individuals of high standing. They can not but admire it in others but strive not to obtain it for themselves. Everyone has within him the seeds of every virtue and it is owning to the soil in which he places them whether they grow to perfection or become stinted at an early day. As everyone has been provided with the seeds of every virtue is it not a duty devolving upon him to nourish them in the best manner? Manifestly, he ought to provide for them the best soil; and tend them with the most untiring and or else they will be run over with weeds. Thats with proper cultivation they will continue to grow and will shine forth as brilliant diadems through life. The most effectual method of perfecting them is seldom well understood and when it is, the difficulty of pursuing that course renders it so every laborious that none except those who start with a firm determination are able strictly to adhere to it, but those who do are abundantly recompensed. Life passes sweetly with them and when it is over they can depart in peace, finding that they have not lived in vain. But, where are we to nourish these seeds and rear the flowers? In solitude?
