better now. There was quite an excitement here last week. Two young ladies (Miss Thorp & Miss Reeman) who room in the basement were found guilty of quite a crime; Miss Scott, and Miss Allen missed from the bread-room at different times, cake and pies. At length some inquiry was made, but nothing could be ascertained concerning the matter. These two young ladies were suspected because they roomed near, and Miss R__ had been known to take food without permission before. One day Miss Scott, went in and said something about it to her but she denied it. She then went to her drawers and she found a loaf of cake. She made farther search and she found 50 pieces of cake. Miss Reeman then told that she & Miss Thorp had taken at different times 39 pies beside other foods! Just think of it! I don't know what Miss Whitman will do about it. She sent for them to come to her room and had a private interview. They appear to feel dread fully!
I am taking yet all the that I had when I was at home.
I study all the time. I have made up all the lessons I lost while at home, except 2 pages in Latin, and that I recite tommorrow. Now haint? I been smart? I am getting along very well with my studies. We commence the French Telemaque, next week. Abby you may tell mother that the last of her precious do- nation was eaten to day. I feel that the last 'mento', is gone! I used to think of her every time it passed my lips. Tell Chandler that his gift has proved most acceptable. and our "sweet Carrie" has shared it with me and not without knowing the giver. Tell Samuel his "countenance" has received the most flattering com- pliments. One lady asked if he was a student, saying "he dressed like one." Another, asked if he was a professional man, saying "her had a ministerial air". Our Carrie keeps dark on the subject. A little bashful about express- ing her opinion. A blush is all she has bestowed. Carrie's health is improving. She is quite an adept in do- mestic affairs. Poor thing! Loves to wash dishes! Tomorrow is recreation day, and our Temple is to be thoroughly cleansed. Miss Scott says I must ride tomor- row. Thursday is to be observed as a day of fasting and prayer. I believe it is not observed at home at all. See 1st Page.
