April, Tuesday, 28. 1863. Took in the balance of our loads & went down the river. arrived at Lake Providence about noon. Reported. went down to Hearns? place & unloaded. Took supper with some ladies--the Misses & Mrs Dunlap. Spent the evening pleasantly. Was up until late watching proceedings

Wednesday, 29. Made the Negroes a speech this morning & so did Wilson at Lunch. Got the men aboard after some difficulty & returned to camp. Everything quiet & pleasant Wrote a letter to Sherman

Thursday, 30. Pleasant day. all quiet. Called on Genl Reed & the boats again go up the river this evening. Compton gone below after clothing &c. for the men. Peebles with the boats. Had an unpleasant altercation with Peebles. X $1
