some information about them in places where he knew the family had lived. Her mother was a widow by the name of Lewis when she came west. She after= wards married another Lewis and they had this daughter. The father was not steady and one day after Mrs. Lewis' death he brought the little girl to Elder Rieds's. He left-her there one night=and then came to ask if he might leave her there a few days. So she stayed sometime & when the father came again they pro= posed to adopt the child if the father would go away and leave her entirely to them - He consented and left,=Elder Ried described [^ to us] the [burning?] of the town in John Brown's time.
