We were stopped by an impassable barrier of smothe perpendicular rocks on both sides - 500 feet high -- and directly in front - 40 to 5o feet & over which we had no means to make our way.

To attempt to give a perfect description of the Gorgious and Magnificent scenery of this valley and Cañon would be supremely ridiculous in me and would be a vain presumption & impossible task for one of the most accomplished gifted & talent persons in the world. The Mouth of the Canyon is not over hald a mile wide & is mostly taken up by the bed of the Creek or River.
