Steam Boat Goddess of Liberty St. Louis, Monday Evening Augt. 5th/42 My dear Wife, With pleasure I seat myself this evening, to inform you that my health continues good, and fondly hope this may find you all enjoying the same inestimable blessing. Egbert, and William and his family are all in good health, I was down Town to day, and saw William. he has changed his notion about going on the "Chicago" and expects to go on the "Fort Pitt" she will probably leave here tomorrow, if she does, I will send this letter by William. Business appeared tolerable brisk on our levee to day, as there was considerable activity in the way of shipments to New Orleans, Produce begins to arrive freely from the upper country, and as there are no buyers in this City, it must go to the Southern or Eastern Markets. We have commenced painting, and are progressing with our other work, I expect the "Goddess" will shine, When we get painted and spread down our new carpet.
