Passing thro' or rather into the midst of the Quitman mountains & about dark unclear into Camp 10 miles from the Rio Grande. On the 30th we watered at the River [[unclear[] miles to the wash of Quitman & then passed through that [[unclear[] & decidedly delapitated old post with its white washed allobe walls and chimneys standing like monuments or tomb stones in an abandoned church yard. unclear on towards & encamped within ten or twelve miles of Eagle Springs as the sunlight was fading and unclear - or lifted
