I like Gen Sheridan better the more I know of him - I think him a just man and believe him to be entirely without prejudice in regard to Colored troops and he speaks very highly of the Companies of the Regt which have been serving in Kansas and I am confident he will find out the whole Regt (with the (Colonel included) will do to tie to - and he has become well satisfied that the best place for it is under my immediate command or control. I rather think the Quarters at Fort Gibson will be completed by the time of my return to that Post. I do not now expect to be there before the 15th
