Volcano eruption in 1812? at Martinique Wet Indies

Thursday, May 22, 1902

Again we have a beautiful day, quite warm, all well here but Nana she has her cough, she has been out playing every day right after our storms thinly dressed and I think she has taken more cold. Dr. Stulp? and Dr. Snyder both think it is Bronchitis but it sounds like whooping cough to me -

Nana Rearden has just found in a youths companion - a piece about eruption in 1896 - I made a mistake in the book 0 it is St. Nicholas for young folks by Mary Maples Dodge. this story is told by Herbert H. Smith in 1812 - it was the great Eruption of one of the smaller West Indian Islands. Souffrière - of St Vincent. at noon April 27 1812. there was a slight Earthquake. and there had been Earthquakes for several day - loud thunder - fire and smoke - with ashes and cinders - shot up two hundred feet a second it was throwing out.
