Monday, July 8, 1861

It is very warm weather for this place - I remained at home all day. I wrote to my Father- at 3 O'clock it blow and rained a great deal- is now quite a storm- it continued raining untill midnight. We opened our books last night. Paulina made pretty crochet edging for children's parties - Ena is knitting a baby cap for Mattie.
