Saturday, August 8, 1874. August weather. Wrote a short letter & a new effort - "Drifting Away." Father brought me some more writing paper. Took a nice ride after supper.

Sunday, 9 An August Sabbath. Father took me to the First Church. A beautiful church & a beautiful service. Heard a splendid sermon. I copy the text: "For God so loved the world" St John 3?-16

Monday, 10 Hot weather Did not write any. Re'd my package of Musical papers from N.G. Mother had company who remained at dinner
