My dear Cousin Cynthia

   I am much pleased at the contents of your beautiful letter. I happened to be in my brother John's house when it arrived and I had the privilege and delightful task to perform that of reading both theirs and my own. I must confess that I had almost given you up for lost and thought that dear Cousin Cynthia had forgotten me entirely but I am happy to see such is not the case and confidently anticipate that in future she will not keep one so long without the favor of reply.
