I found a small memento The day you went away, Upon the bed-room bureau Unconciously it lay.

It please me when I saw it, That one long golden hair I knew it must by Mary's It was so bright and fair.

I took it to the window And ere I hardly knew, Upon the gentle breeze Away it quickly flew.

I know not where it wandered Nor where it found a rest, Perhaps some bird espied it And twined it in her nest.
