                          I will send an Officer and guard from Austin to Escort "Satanta" and "Big Tree" from Huntsville to Dallas, whence they will be taken by a Company of Cavalry to Fort Sill.
                        Some days may elapse, before Cavalry can be at Dallas.  Will notify you in time, to have prisoners meet them there.
                        Will you send some one in charge of them to pay Expenses &c.

                   In reply to your letter to me of Sept. 30th., I have to respectfully inform you, that should anything connected with the approaching elections lead to riots or general disturbances, I should feel authorized to use U. S. troops, to assist Civil authorities in preserving peace and preventing destruction of property, in the same way that I would, if the riot and disturbances arose from other causes.
                  In no other way can the U. S. troops be made available, for any purpose connected with State Elections.
