returning them, was the hope that his immediate family, now prisoners at Fort Concho, would be returned to him.
I had determined that the captive Indians now at Concho, should not be returned, until all the white Captives now held by the tribes, North of the Arkansas be returned, as also all animals and other property, stolen by these tribes during the past year from the Government and from individuals, when they can be identified and further, until the Quahada bands shall bring their people to the reservation, with purpose to remain and behave themselves properly. I still adhere to this purpose, but am willing to modify it thus far, that I will release a certain number, whenever white Captives are brought in, and in the case of Horseback's, I will give orders for restoring to your hands "Se-Kna-A Penetethka the mother of Horseback's wife and Woris-be-ah, a former wife of his and her daughter. I will be grateful, if you will let the Indians understand the terms on which the Indian prisoners will be returned, as also, in case of renewed depredations on the Texas frontier - the purpose to send them out of the Country and permanently keep them there. Very respectfully Your obdt. servant
