Yours of the 19th. inst. in reference to the non-rendition of any accounts of my disbursements under Treaties made by Indian Peace Commissioners, prior to January 1869, has been received. In reply I beg to state that my accounts of such disbursements were regularly made to General Sherman, who was charged with their supervision, and if any are missing now, they must have been detained at his Headquarters by mistake. My retained accounts were left in safe at Omaha. I have telegraphed to have them sent to me, when I will have duplicate accounts made and sent you. My retained Checkbook shows that prior to that date - January 1st, 1869, I made the following disbursements: To Benedict Hall & Co. $17.300. 53 " myself 356. 35 " Poultney and Trimble 24. 00 _________ $17.680. 88
