Monday morning Dec 15th 1862

Dear Mother,

    I had finished my letter to you, and just before mailing it, one of our boys was [illegible] [illegible] [wounded?] [The?] [illegible]  of the case are as follows.  On Sabbath morning we usually have Company inspection.  Yesterday morning we had inspection as usual and when over a foraging squad consisting of one man from each squad.  Corporal Thos Tinsely and Luit S. W. Stevens were sent out to procure forage, corn and hay for our horses.   It being late they were unable to join the daily foraging train, and therefore had no protection except 5 or 6
