Dear Uncle
Your kind letter of the 3rd inst. was duly received.
I can offer no apology for not writing to some of my numerous friends in Bloom, since enlisting, unless lazinefs is neglect. We have occupied our present camp about 2 mile from Murfreesboro, now over two months, and from all appearances, may remain here during the entire war. We have grubbed out old stumps, cleared a parade ground, built small shantees, to be used as cook houses, and in short, made every preparation necessary for quite a long stay. But the soldiers life is uncertain, no matter what
