Near Kensaw Mountain GA June 24" 1864 My Dearest Mother I hope you are not haveing as hot weather in Illinois as we are having in this miserable country it rained most of the month untill the 20th since that time it has been excessively warm it is what all expect of course. has caused some sickness but not as much as might have been expected. we may expect pretty heavy losses before driving the Enemy from his position they are on both sides of the mountain and the position cannot be turned without risking two much ourselves from all accounts genl Grant is doing
