The troops sent out by the Major General Commanding District of Nebraska against hostill Indians (who have for over a year past threatened the lives of emigrants travelers and freighters to and from the country West of the [Mipouri?] River on the Overland Stage Road) left Post Cottonwood Nebraska 95 miles west of Fort Kerney. on the 6th day of January 1866 in obedience to orders from Head.Quarters.East.Sub. District of Nebraska.
