to promotion. and have the satisfaction of Knowing that I have the confidence and esteem of many Officers high in rank in this Department. if I had a thousand dollars to send to some Congressman I could get promotion anytime but have not nor do I prespose to get promotion that way. as long as I am Seignor Aid-de-Camp I shall be content but if there should be an aid put here with more rank than I have got I will not Stay a moment it would be a reflection upon me that I would not stand.
