this war can be closed. What is McClellan waiting for? His men are well drilled, well armed and brigaded under experienced Genls. I dont know what to think about the trip down the river. Genl. Curtis is now here & has command of all the troops now stationed here. Sunday morning about 1500 cavalry started off It is supposed that they are going to Springfield We left Salem and reached our old tents in Saturday. Nothing now to indicate a forward movement from this place. Mr Patterson recd. a letter from his father to night saying that he had just sent 2 boxes containing clothes & one [bbl.?] of provisions to Co B. by express.
