March 1st 1860.

Dear Grandmother:

It is with much pain that I hear of your illness, and I should hasten to see you if I thought you thought it best, or if you were not surrounded by those who would not let you suffer if they could help it; yet I hope you will soon be better, if not so already. I am very glad that John is so ready and willing to write and you me know how you all do, and to write for you for I do not know as I should ever hear from there were it not for him, & Elbridge, John can tell you of my prosperity here and present good health, The last I heard from Eliza's they were all well. Please accept these few lines from your grandson, who though absent in body, is present with you in thoughts. Edward.
