3 many American "moderns" oppose the robust & worldly Sat eve Post philosophy with expressions of drift, hopelessness & not tragedy but futility. Maybe I am utterly & stupidly wrong; and maybe a literature need not be the voice, the hope, the light and articulate love of a great mass. I do not wish to argue this with you; I think you are too fine an artist & too justified of your works for me to pretend to advise. I have, for the past several years, tried to cure myself of aesthetic wrangling & the ongoing & try to find myself in writing. It's a big enough job for anyone. When I say anything I am not arguing - only expressing myself & what I have seen and experienced.
