 It was with great interest I read your letter telling of your earlier  experience. The "Fourth estate"

apparently was in your blood at an early age. You must have some pleasant and bitter memories pounding away at your "Anvil". You certainly must have been well imbued with the spirit of the proletariat to fight on as you did. It is a cheerless and cold road to travel and the very ones for whom you fight the hardest for are the ones who turn against you. There have been times when I wanted to throw my puny weight against the collossus [sic] of capitalism but I guess I was too weak or loved my creature comforts too well. I was also brought up in a family where the union was always upheld. We all belonged to different unions but the principal was the same. We belonged to the labor party and were brought up in that part of Scotland know [sic] by the tories of England as the "Red Clyde"
