Tell me, if you will, your opinion of the argument below. Men will fight and die for a belief. Both democracy and communism, totalitarianism, unclear are beliefs. Every belief becomes real to people when it is represented in a few person, or one person, the "hero". Every belief has its peculiar symbols, which embody in compact form certain abstract ideas which are the bases of the belief. The personal influence of the hero, gives force and meaning to the symbol, which becomes a pattern for the thought and action of the people and shapes their destiny. Dictators know these facts. American democracy has yet to understand and use them. our symbols are unclear meaningless. Our dead heroes are "debunked" We need new "heroes" and a re-evaluation of democratic ideals in the light of the meaning of opposing ideals. Here is a necessary educational project requiring one man's understanding and effort to initiate and supervise. There is a job for me, if I could get it
