February 11, 1941 Dear Mr. Anderson: I have just finished re-reading "Winesburg, Ohio" and feel that I must write you to tell you how much it has impressed me. I don't believe I have ever ready any delineation of characters such as yours. Quite a number of the stories in "The Triumph of the Egg" impressed me much the same way. I had read most of your work, but these are the ones I find myself returning to, always with pleasure and profit. There are many young people like myself who have come under the spell of these stories. For me, it has given me an understanding, and, I hope, more tolerance, to my fellows, and I, for one, am deeply grateful. This is also written in the hope that you will have another volume for us in the near future. With this goes my deepest wish, sir, for the best of health and happiness to you and yours. This is an awkward note, I know, especially to one like yourself, who is such a master of the language. Again, my profound thanks to you.
