in pencil under date Thank You

April 15, 1958 Dear Jack:

The letter came and the enclosures - the Vampire Bat one none too soon, for at forty-six the Dread Habit is still a problem in default of opportunity for gandier [sic] vice. The book arrived this morning - like the letter wonderfully welcome. It's been so long I'm touched that you even remember my name. I haven't seen Nelson in some years - last time we left Ledbelly's apt. drunkenly, he on his way to Europe, I on my way to nowhere. Warmest regards. Joe Carroll
