Dear Mr. Anderson I have to laugh. It seems that each time I write you I opened up with a different reason (reason, not excuse) for not having written sooner- just as if you were sitting there and wondering, "Why dont I hear from Emmett?"! The last time I said (and you know it was true) that I didn't want to be forcing a frequent correspondence upon you- and it brought me back a piece of magnificent original thinking, as fine an expression of modesty as I have ever read and with some kind personal words in it that made it a letter for me always to be very proud of.
