Dear Sherwood Anderson,

 So you didn't come to Europe last summer after all!  What a pity!

I hoped even until the fall that you would, for every once in a while I have a strong affection for America and its people, but after that I was sure you weren't coming.

 First, let me tell you about my writing because you were good enough

to be kind about it. Mr. O'Brien didn't think anything of it, and I still, knowing myself as well as I do, wonder
