9/9/68 Ever get their hippy papers? They have a good one in Atlanta, Ga. - underlined: "The Great Speckled Bird" - work of art. good design and underlined: NO 4-letter words! Surprise!

Jack I:

Yessuh, you is done archived in that ole Alexandria Liberry - just thot you might want to know they didnt throw you out - they done tossed a lot of Ben Hecht, Erskine Caldwell and Raymond Chandler out - and of course they dont have that dirty French writer, Genet - but they do have Anatole France and Romaine Rolland - the cullerd militants they get on the shelves and I suspect some ignerunt honky gets them out and destroys them - I been trying for two months to get Elridge Cleaver's "Soul on Ice" - but the first person who took the book out didnt bring it back - ah me, them white folks is a literary trial.
Sent a card to Judy (on the Bayou) Rayford - but no peep outa him - he gets spells, will write a four-page single space letter and then NOTHING for months. Dee Brown claimed Judy never growed up no how - still living in ante bellum past - wish I could - nicer time to live, and eat and travel. Aint safe to travel in this area after dark - whoo-ee-ee!
