July 1, 1960 Jack I: I agree, we should start the Anvil again - perhaps it would start me to writing - nothing new here - we live, god knows how, but we do - Rosenberger's wife died recently - he used to contribute to Anvil I believe - I had a letter in paper recently under an assumed name - what can you do, as a "security risk" so-called - as I put it, you are branded, like a Star of David in Hitler's Germany - I can't get a better job - I can't move without some jerk looking up the record and pointing out that I was once a "security risk" -- John Ackerson thinks I should try to get a job in Prague, Czechoslovkia - I don't know - with two kids you don't know which way to jump - I must say they treat me far worse than they treat the so-called refugees - you live in a hell created by men who are supposed to be dedicated to the principles of democracy - you don't know what to do - your kids grow up in an ugly world that you must have had something to do with the making, in spite of Jas. T. Farrell - or is it Jas. T. Farell? I dont remember - so many of the Depression Years writers, like Richard Wright, prefer to forget that they were once on the breadline - I spit upon them - they are the louses of American literature - we write editorials about Pasternak - how about the Pasternaks of America. brain-washed and purged because they believe in peace and brotherhood? The children are with sister-in-law for two weeks - near the Blue Ridge mts. I've been ill - had 5 teeth out - getting old I guess - lost 12 lbs. - and on Leave Without Pay - rough all over - even beer doesn't help. Jack II
