Jack oboy oboy:
Sent letter to H.H. Lewis, the cowflop poet of the Gumbo - didn't realize he was that old, but
I'm almost 70 so who am I to talk?! Yes, I thot [sic] the Patty Hearst pome [sic] was Okeh as well as the piece about Lewis. Liked yours about old Benton - he was a great one, he was altho I might not agree with ALL of his art, he did a fine job. Received underline five /underline (5) FOOLKILLERS in one mailing - have to figure five persons worthy to receive it - all my friends are dying off - A scary feeling - I may be next.
Like summer today - 75 [degrees] - and the other day it was nearer 20 [degrees]?! Still have my
long-johns on. Rather sweat than freeze.
Sent some samples of my writing to MODERN MATURITY and got a form-printed Rejection -
they evidently didn't even read the stuff - want to keep the Retirees alike as two peas - phooie. Ought to have a Radical group of Retirees, say you not so? Run the AARP like the American Legion, they do.
Dee Brown griping because they picked Saul Bellow for Nobel Prize - says we must be becoming
illiterate country - So we must. Salud! Jack II. on side Saw a letter in the press signed by Bellow, Mailer etc. wanted to answer it but didn't. Bunch of comedians, as you once wrote.
