October 18, 1973 Dear Wendell -

     As you can see, from our envelope, my typewriter is as sick as your OL' Dan ---- I was due at hospital to-day but as usual before vehicle trip the horrors and proper hours threw me completely ---- I become weaker each day, I am now forty-one pounds under-weight.  At the moment, the salvation of the teeth is most paramount and supremely Hellish ---- we think of you and talk of you and pray for you so constantly that no word could possibly get these truths on paper.  Florence and I love you completely as we did indeed love our precious Es.  Neither
