August 18" Dearest Johnny, I have been in great trouble for the last few days, on Julius' account he will not do anything, I mean in the way of business, he will not even read mush less study, yet he is a dear good fellow and I would hardly know how to do without him all this you have heard fifty times but to come to the climax. Pa I think is very much discouraged about him, and you know his way of managing is rather peculiar. I have been talking to Julius about his little habits and suggesting to him to try studying in his own room and beginning in convert?, he said he had thought of that himself, and now says he had concluded to do so, but he thought he might as well settle with Pa. Well I suppose Pa thought hed been doing nothing and so might keep himself and pay his own bills, which with harvest hands taxes &c &c amounted to about 70 or 90 dollars I do not know which
