Wed. - July 4th/62 - a.m. Dear Jack -

I hope you can "dig" my scrawl. It's so early - and a holiday - I hate to waken sleeping neighbors by typing.
Hope you and Gladys had wonderful time underlined: (are having. since you're still there) in Moberly.
I'll get in touch with Mary Heller - though my time seems so "pressured--" for - as you may know, I'm doing a nonfiction children's book (papercover) for Collier Bks - and the part of advance given me, already spent, so I'm doing odd jobs also to keep afloat (& so much research for book!) -
Despite that just finished a 5,000 word story - haven't had underlined: that compulsion for ages - I underlined: had to do it. My agent phoned yesterday - is enthused after reading it. All we pray is that some mag. is! But stories are harder than ever to publish.
And I want to get back to my play someday - a novel - do --underlined: more
