Dear Jack,

     Really the only reason I've not written you in the past how many years is that I thought to shock after not having written for how too many years would be too great.  Well, that's a lie -- I'm neurotic and lazy and sometimes even commendably busy.
  You've probably heard from Stan Whitmore, whose first novel, underlined:  Solo, I like a lot, that I'm working with Granville Hicks on a book about British fiction since the 30s.  I keep puttering away my time and energy in foolishness and occasional pieces (SRL, NR, NL, etc.) but I think I'm getting squared away and will really get a lot done during the next possible years.
  I think maybe you could get  back to Yaddo.  Granville knows nothing against it and
