2) She is a fabulous person with a very retentive mind & manages to stay on top of everything today to the point where she dazzles you. It seems that (years ago) her son-in-law was in on the invention of Xerox & he told her to get every nickel she could beg, borrow, or steal & invest in the new company being formed (it was in a garage then). She did. She lives on a very modest scale & money means nothing to her so she set up a foundation (with the Xerox income) to endow writers who are working on working-class themes treating with the 30's. I discovered this through a friend of mine (Sid Fossum, the artist) who is writing a history of the WPA artists & writers projects of the 30's. He received one grant & is supposed to get another one he tells me. ($500 a pop). At this point I have no idea how much money is in the foundation, how it is administered or what the name of it is. I was over at the Minnesota Historical Society awhile ago (doing research for my novel) & had a long talk with the director (Russ Fridley) whom I suspect has something to do with the foundation. My plan was to write to Russ, thanking him for his help & also ask him what the mechanics of getting a grant would be.
