April 21st 1940 Riverton, Ky.

Dear Jack Conroy:

    Some of these times I'll go through all of my stories and see if I can find another underlined:  Sour Grapes.  I wrote this story in Scotland.  I thought first I'd make a novelette out of it.  There was a preacher living near.  He spoke of the spiritual resurrection - not the physical resurrection as our good Baptist preach here.  He discussed this story with me.  He liked it after I'd written it.  I suppose I sent that story 25 trips, while in the West, I heard many comments on this story - believe it or not.  I was surprised to hear them for I didn't know underlined:  The New Anvil had much circulation.
