Oct 31 '71 To Jack and Gladys with Love Win

underlined: Choosing an Architect Chicago '71 by Win Strache. Tune: Bury me not on the Prairie or, I've got no use for the women

1. A business man sits in his office With the young architect of his choice. He glares at the sketches And practically retches But then to his thoughts he gives voice:

2. "First, understand why you were chosen I hear you've no talent at all; Tho' your work's not respected you seem well connected With the Powers down at City Hall."

3. "Don't build me an elegant structure. Make it sort of ugly and square. If artists abhor it Just try to ignore it I want to make big profits there".

4. "Don't use any ornamentation, Let's get that straight right from the start, 'cause sure as perdition some future commission Will have it adjudged as great art."

5. "Provide for the maximum floor space, Let the minimum monies be spent; I'll have no compunction If form follows function' As long as that function is rent."

6. When the time comes that we must destroy it Let it not be occasioned by grief; Let there be no crying or Sobbing or Sighing, Unless it's a sigh of relief."
