in pencil Wolkenhauer, Jewel 12/87 Dear Jack, it was so good to hear from you last Christmas. I hope your health has improved - you've had enuf [sic] troubles. We have had an abundance of health problems too, the past year. Shirley has been battling recurring cancer for 9 yrs. but she is peppier right now than she has been in years. My troubles are most arthritis - especially knee & ankle but I am improving. // The author of "Ruffles & Drums" you mentioned retired from the Denver Public School system and moved to the mountains west of Denver. Then she began teaching for the Jefferson County system. Doesn't write anymore as far as I know but is a good jokester and a good friend. Missed her this summer while in Denver & she was away when we could have seen her. You'd like her, Jack. Like you, she is a good story-teller. // I will have to try to locate "The Weed King & Other Stories." Think the local bookstore can get it for me. I hope sales of it have brought you more than literary acclaim. // Thanks for the dope on Standard Ed. people - the only names I recognized were Ward & Ewing. Better sign off for now, dear friend. I do think of you - and fondly. You were an anchor in Frisky Fisk's nutty world. Always, Jewel (Wolkenhauer)
